Laser gum Decontamination : uses laser as a preventive method to prevent any infection in the gum tissue. It includes tracing the laser around the gum line of each tooth quickly, killing the bad (anaerobic) bacteria. Since a bacterial infection is the initiator of the chronic inflammatory response of periodontitis, the bactericidial and detoxifying effect of laser treatment is advantageous.
Latest research shows that these oral pathogens have now been linked to a number of other diseases such as cardiovascular disease, rheumatoid arthritis, low birth weight babies, diabetes etc. Anything that we can do to reduce or eliminate these bacteriemias is a positive. It also biostimulate new blood vessels, collagen, gum attachment and bone formation.
The laser decontamination process is painless and normally takes about 5-10 minutes. We highly recommend that you take advantage of this service as part of your routine cleaning.
-Laser Curettage :
Patients can be treated in a conservative and minimally invasive way, without surgery, in the general practice. There is time to try the surgical approach, if needed, at a later date. The diode laser is a specific instrument well suited in dealing with diseased soft tissue. It is the elimination of granulation tissue, bacterial products, and ulcerated areas to create a clean, even epithelial lining .
Laser curettage is a specialized type of gum treatment that is usually performed in multiple sessions to help the gum heal and shrink the pockets.
- Frenectomy :
The tight ligament that attaches the upper lip to the gums is called the labial frenum. The one attaching the tongue to the base of the mouth is the lingual frenum.
The consequences of a low-attaching lip frenum are:
-Diastema formation.
-Recession of the gum between the upper incisors.
-Open mouth posture.
The consequences of a tight lingual frenum , also called "tongue tied” are the following:
-Low tongue position.
-Swallowing dysfunction.
-Lisping: it is a speech problem that causes someone to pronounce the letters “s” and “z” like “th”.
Frenectomy is the procedure that surgically releases the frenum .
The conventional procedure consists in cutting with a blade or scissors, with or without sutures to reposition its attachment. Today, and in our office, we employ a procedure called "laser frenectomy".
- Aphtous-ulcers treatment :
Aphthous ulcers are a common in the general population. Although not dangerous , they can be sometimes the source of a great discomfort and pain. If they are recurrent, laboratory tests may be needed to rule out an underlying systemic condition.
Relief of pain and reduction of ulcer duration are the main goals of therapy.
A simple and effective way to become proficient at using a laser for soft-tissue procedures is to use it to treat these aphthous ulcers. Using the laser, our dentist can easily treat the ulcer efficiently and lessen the pain in a relatively short period of time. Although the results can vary from patient to patient, most will experience dissipation of the lesion within 1 to 2 day.
- Gum Bleaching :
This procedure goes under several names including dark gum treatment, gum bleaching, gum depigmentation and other variations on the name.
Some people have dark gum, a discoloration that is unappealing .Normal gum color is pink. Excess deposits of melanin can create the appearance of brown or black spots or patches on the gums or gingiva. Known as melanin hyper-pigmentation, “dark gums” can range from spots to covering nearly the entire area. While harmless, many people find these spots aesthetically undesirable.
Although many dentists who perform this procedure may use surgical procedures, The most modern approach to gum bleaching involves the use of a dental laser to remove the dark pigmentation on the gums. Laser technology can now effectively and painlessly remove these problem areas. This treatment is an accurate, quick way to eliminate dark gums in as little as one visit and with very short healing time.
- Cosmetic Gum Re-Contouring :
Also called gingivoplasty, crown lengthening , gum reshaping , gum rejuvenation or gum lift.
It is the procedure that eliminates the gummy smile . Sometimes we do it just for one or couple of teeth.
Most dentists will focus their smile makeover on perfectly aligned, pearly white teeth mainly. They forget on another important detail : the gum.
What is gummy smile?? It is the excess of gum tissue that makes the teeth look short , and when a person smiles, we can mostly see the gum not the teeth. Other factors could contribute to a gummy smile, as a high lip-line, or the muscles that controls the upper lip can be hyperactive. This is sometimes caused by genetic factors, but it can also be due to certain health problems or a side-effect to some medication. Gummy smile can affect a person’s self-esteem or self-confidence and can make the process of smiling unappealing , which makes the gum recontouring procedure an important treatment.. It mainly affects the front teeth and it can also shape back teeth.
The procedure is most commonly done through traditional surgery with the use of a scalpel . In some cases we might need to remove bone to improve the look of your teeth .
At the StarZ’, we use the new Laser technology to treat this condition. It offers a number of benefits for patients affected by a "gummy smile," including:
-Reduction of excess gum tissue surrounding the teeth
-Better balance between the teeth and gums
-Less bleeding and swelling when compared to traditional surgery
-Faster healing and recovery times
-The treatment is painless
