Bruxism or Grinding Teeth
Bruxism is grinding the teeth that occurs in children and adults , usually during sleep.
It is rarely a serious condition in children, but it is more common in adults.
Adults may grind their teeth at night due to :
a) Malocclusion
b) Stress.
The result of bruxism can be:
--Worn teeth or worn spots (attrition) that can lead to
*Malocclusion ( if patient doesn't have it already)
*Sensitivity
*Brittle weak teeth that require crowns.
--TMJ (Temporomandibular joint) problems.
--Noise that sometimes disrupts the partner's sleep.
